An Inclusive Community

The Office of Diversity & Inclusion (ODI) is committed to promoting an inclusive campus community of AMCATS who have knowledge and understanding of their individual identities and the identities of those around them. At Anna Maria, we aim to create and maintain a campus climate based on respect, where our differences are acknowledged, not neglected, and joined with our commonalities – as this is essential for building and maintaining an engaged, inclusive college.

Through our dialogues and programs we aim to promote interpersonal development, intergroup understanding, cultural empathy and humility, and critical thinking skills to prepare our students to meet the challenges of a complex and evolving society.

“Anna Maria is committed to fostering an inclusive college community comprised of individuals who know and understand their own identities and the identities of others. In the Office of Diversity & Inclusion, we strive to create and maintain a campus climate based on respect, where differences are acknowledged, embraced, and understood as a powerful asset for bridging across our differences to our shared humanity. This is crucial to the development and maintenance of an engaged, inclusive college community. Lastly, we aim to ensure that everyone in this campus community feels safe, supported, accepted, appreciated, valued, and has an equal opportunity to thrive and succeed.” – Sherman Cowan, Chief Diversity Officer
